What is STEP-UP?

The goal of STEP-UP, the Small Town Energy Program for University Park, is to improve energy efficiency by 20% in at least 20% of the homes in University Park, Maryland. The STEP-UP “Energy Coach” works with Town residents every step of the way as they have their homes assessed by a qualified energy auditor and, if they so choose, have qualified contractors act upon the recommendations in the assessment report to improve their home’s energy efficiency. The Energy Coach also helps residents obtain attractive financing and the rebates to which they are are entitled. The process is easy. The work is affordable. And participants are supported every step of the way.

STEP-UP is designed to create a model community energy transformation program that can serve as a roadmap for replication by other small towns across the US. The program is funded by the Better Buildings Neighborhood Program of the US Department of Energy. STEP-UP runs from August 2010 through July 2013. Click here for more information about STEP-UP.
